Bossard Memorial Library ‘Monsters in Ohio’ event slated for September 13 Author and investigator returns to discuss cryptids in the buckeye state Paranormal investigator and author James A. Willis will return to Bossard Memorial Library for a presentation all about Ohio monsters and cryptids beginning at 6 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 13 in the library’s Riverside Room. Originally from upstate New York, Willis moved to Ohio in 1999 and founded the Ghosts of Ohio ⎯ a nationally-recognized paranormal research organization that uses scientific and historic methods to investigate and document hauntings throughout the state. An in-demand public speaker, Willis is also the author of over a dozen books, including The Big Book of Ohio Ghost Stories, Ohio’s Historic Haunts, Southern Ohio Legends & Lore, and Central Ohio Legends & Lore. Willis previously presented at Bossard Library in 2018, speaking specifically about his experience with ghost hunting and encounters the Ghosts of Ohio group has had with the paranormal around Ohio. During the program on Sept. 13, Willis will discuss his explorations of the state and some of its stranger legends, including Ohio’s Bigfoot, known as the Ohio Grassman; South Bay Bessie, Lake Erie’s version of the Loch Ness Monster; the Loveland Frog; the Melonheads; vampire and werewolf sightings, and other encounters with supernatural creatures from across the buckeye state. This program is free and open to everyone with an interest. Willis will also sell and sign copies of his books after the presentation. Trivia Night ‘Game on!’ Game Day Saturday Ages 12 and over (under 12 with an adult) Bring your friends and stop by the library for Game Day. All ages and skill levels are welcome. Children ages 12 and under must be accompanied by an adult. Attendees are welcome to stay for the entire event or play games as time allows. Light refreshments will be provided. Evening Storytime Tween Book Club Ages 13-18 The Tween Book Club will meet at the Rio Renaissance Faire, Rio Grande, Ohio. Members should check-in between 11 a.m.-11:45 a.m. Book club members can enter the event with free admission. The featured book for September is Storm Dragons: Lightningborn by Julie Kagawa. Copies of the book can be borrowed from the library. ‘Color Me Happy’ Adult Coloring Ages 18 and over Stop by the library to enjoy an adults-only coloring session. Coloring sheets and coloring gel pens/pencils are provided or you can bring your own. Bring a friend and enjoy a relaxing coloring session and genial conversation. “Color Me Happy” is only for adults ages 18 and over. No children are permitted. On Monday, Sept. 30, storytime will be held at the Gallia Academy High School library, 2855 Centenary Road, Gallipolis. Yoga Ages 16 and over Beginning on Monday, Sept. 16, Yoga will be held at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, 541 Second Avenue, Gallipolis. Waiver form required. Pat-a-Cake Lapsit Ages birth-3 Beginning on Thursday, Sept. 19, lapsit will be held each Thursday morning at the Gallipolis First Church of God, 1723 State Route 141. Needlework Circle Ages 12 and over Needlework Circle will continue to be held each Wednesday at the library. Anyone age 12 and over with an interest in any of the fiber arts is welcome and encouraged to attend. Ages 18 and over The Adult Book Club will meet at the library’s booth at the Rio Renaissance Faire for their September meeting. The featured book for September is The Falcon Always Wings Twice by Donna Andrews. Copies of the book can be borrowed from the library. The audiobook can be borrowed from the hoopla app, while the audiobook or eBook can be found on the Ohio Digital Library. Bossard Library’s Adult Book Club typically meets on the last Saturday of each month. Adult Book Club French City Writers’ Guild Ages 18 and over Both budding and experienced writers are encouraged to attend the monthly meeting of the French City Writers’ Guild. Writers are encouraged to discuss their original works of various genres, including non-fiction, poetry, genre fiction, and drama. Guild meetings are only for individuals age 18 and over. Light refreshments will be provided.

StoryWalk at the French Art Colony The StoryWalk title for September is When the Sky Glows by Nell Cross Beckerman with illustrations by David Litchfield. StoryWalk is located on the grounds of the French Art Colony, 530 First Avenue. StoryWalk is a great way for both children and adults to enjoy the great outdoors and great children’s books! Bossard’s Book Clubs to meet at Renaissance Faire Bossard Library’s Tween and Adult Book Clubs will meet at the first annual Rio Renaissance Faire on Saturday, Sept. 28. The faire will be held from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the trailhead for the Gatewood Trail System, 10 Bevo Francis Way, Rio Grande. Tween Book Club members are encouraged to RSVP to Rachael prior to the event by calling 740.446.7323 x 226. A permission form and liability waiver are required for attendance. For free admission, Tween Book Club members should check-in at the main gate between 11 a.m. and 11:45 a.m. Tweens are encouraged to read Storm Dragons: Lightningborn by Julie Kagawa for the September meeting. This middle grade fantasy novel follows a young boy named Remy who finds a wild baby dragon. The Adult Book Club will also meet at the Rio Renaissance Faire. For free admission, Adult Book Club members should check in between 11 a.m. and 11:45 a.m. After check in, Adult Book Club members should make their way to the library’s booth where they will discuss The Falcon Always Wings Twice by Donna Andrews. A book in Andrews’ long-running Meg Lanslow Mystery series, this novel follows Meg as her grandmother hosts a Renaissance Faire where Meg has to investigate a murder. Copies of both the Tween and Adult Book Clubs’ selected books can be borrowed from the library. Library prepares for ‘Animal Inside Out’ As library staff prepare for the upcoming “Animal Inside Out” exhibit, which opens to the public on Sept. 28, library patrons should note that some library programs may change locations and/or dates and times to accommodate this large exhibit, which will be on display at the library through Jan. 4, 2025. Beginning on Monday, Sept. 16, weekly Yoga sessions will be held each Monday evening beginning at 6 p.m. at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Gallipolis. Beginning on Tuesday, Sept. 17, storytime will typically be held each week on Tuesday morning at 10 a.m. at the Gallipolis First Church of God through Jan. 7. Special storytime events will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 30, Monday, Oct. 21, Monday, Nov. 18, and Monday, Dec. 16 at the Gallia Academy High School library. Beginning on Thursday, Sept.19, lapsit will be held beginning at 10 a.m. each Thursday morning at the Gallipolis First Church of God through Thursday, Jan. 9. Trivia Night will be held at the Colony Club in Gallipolis beginning at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 1. Trivia Night will also be held at this location in November and December. Adult coloring and Adult Book Club will both be held on Saturday, Oct. 26 and Saturday, Dec. 7 at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m., respectively, at the Gallipolis Municipal Building. Adult coloring will also be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 30 at the municipal building. Bossard Library’s Game Day Saturdays, French City Writers’ Guild, and Needlework Circle will continue to meet at the library.
