"Living Historians" in period dress will introduce visitors to some well-known and not so well-known citizens of Gallipolis and Gallia County.
"Meet" the following citizens of Gallia County:
Permelia Atwood -- Co-founder of the University of Rio Grande.
Rev. WR Gould -- 19th century Presbyterian minister who preached before the hanging of James Lane in 1817.
Colonel John Vance -- served in the Union army, editor and publisher of the Gallipolis Bulletin, advocate for Gallipolis as the home for the Ohio Hospital for Epileptics, served in the U.S. House of Representatives from Ohio.
Clarence Hammonds -- African-American restaurant owner who made the best fried chicken in town.
"Aunt" Mary Washington -- a freed slave who raised the children of several prominent and wealthy families Gallipolis.
Charles Armistead -- African-American attorney and politician who ran for Ohio Attorney General in 1897.
David Hebard -- prominent lawyer, prosecuting attorney, and judge in Gallia County. Stockholder in the Gallipolis-Jackson-Chillicothe Railroad Company.
Albert A. Stewart – Businessman & entrepreneur; victim of the Titanic disaster
Jeanine DeVacht -- wife of French 550 settler Joseph DeVacht, a local businessman, watchmaker and silversmith.
Lizzie Hazlett -- infamously known as a bigamist and wife of a murderer -- but was she?
Isaac Boatman -- Union soldier and leader of colored troops during the Civil War.
